After series of investigation carried out by PSD on recent news on OJB. We can authoritatively report that the governments aid to Jiggaman has been suspended.
Nomoreloss who heads the fund raisingcommittee announced via social networking site twitter that the officials withdrew
following misinformation on the exact amount already raised for OJB’s treatment.
On friday, stories had emerged on blogs and social networks that D’banj, Wizkid, Tuface had all donated 7m, 3m and 1.5
million naira respectively. Nomoreloss calls these stories false and has even asked D’banj to clear the air.
This is to remind you that PSD is the only authoritative source on OJB's health issues. We will like to remind you that a blogsite has been set up by PSD to raise funds for OJB's transplant and has received backing from the fund raising officer, Nomoreloss after various retweet of the site on twitter. New single: Mode 9 fts Don Jazzy in ‘Some more’
Foremost, Nigerian rap artist Mode 9 has
released a new single ‘Some more’
featuring Mavin Boss, Don Jazzy.
I want to act young Okonjo-Iweala in a Nigerian film – Tayo Elesin
Tayo Elesin is a British-Nigerian actress.
She also prefers to be referred to as a
“storyteller.” Famous for her roles in some
BBC TV productions including Casualty, Law
and Order, Doctor, among others, Tayo has
also acted in the critically acclaimed play
by late Ola Rotimi ‘Our Husband Has Gone
Mad Again’ produced last year by Lookman
Sanusi. While in the country recently, she
paid a courtesy visit to the Vanguard
corporate office, where she spoke
passionately about playing the role of
younger Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala whenever a
biographical film is done about her.
You have volunteered to play a young version of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. What is the attraction?
What attracts me about Ngozi Okonjo-
Iweala is her level of education, her
poise and what she has actually achieved
as a woman in the financial world. It is not
easy for a woman anywhere in the world to
occupy such a powerful position let alone,
in an African country. It’s even ten times
harder and the fact that she has
maintained it and has also retained it even
up till today is absolutely admirable. I
think, if you look into her life, one will be
surprised to come up with an interesting
story about her upbringing.
Recall that Ngozi Okonjo Iweala attended
Harvard University at a time, I’m sure it
was not easy for a black person to be
there. If Hollywood film makers could do a
film about Abraham Lincoln and are also
talking about doing a biographical film
about Obama, why can’t Nigerian film
makers do a biographical film about Ngozi
Okonjo Iweala who is a major female figure
in the African financial industry? I’m sure if
I conduct an interview with her right now,
there will be a story about her life that has
not been unravelled. This is because I
suspect she wouldn’t have gotten to where
she is today overnight.

I Am Not Sure I Will Marry Again – Actress Chika Ike
See what Chika Ike said
about her love life
below…
I would not want to talk about the
experience with early marriage and
spousal abuse. When you get married,
things happen along the line and you ask
yourself if it is something you can take.
Everybody has their share of experience in
marriage. I don't like talking about it
because I'm trying to get over it.
The next man I will marry? I am not sure I
am going to get married but if I eventually
do, I will just let go and allow God to
guide me. But if it does not work out,
happiness is all that matters. I cannot
sacrifice my happiness for anybody.
Dekunle Fuji Becomes Nurse In America
In the search for greener pastures, a
popular Nigerian gospel fuji musician,
Dekunle Fuji is now a certified nurse in
the US.
The former Storm Records artiste who
several years ago, was a toast in the
gospel scene is now based in the US State
of New Jersey where he went through a
nursing course to become a qualified
nurse.
NET investigations have it that the former
artiste had left Nigeria for a show in the
US in 2011. Getting to the US, Dekunle
began considering the thought of settling
down in the States. In no time he quickly
applied for a nursing course and finished
with the course a few months ago,
according to our source.
A source who confirmed the report told
NET that prior to his sojourn in the US,
the musician (although does not like to be
referred to as a gospel artiste) had joined
the Nigerian Police Force even before
moving to the US.
"Dekunle had joined the police force
where he was appointed a senior officer
because of his qualification. It just so
happened that his travelling came through
just about the same time the Police force
had employed him", the source said.
We also discover that in the US, the
musician turned nurse is still taking up
shows in churches and crusades where he
gets paid up to about $5000 (N790000) per
performance.
Another source says that the musician
who lost his father and mother at a young
age had decided to adopt New Jersey as
his permanent home for now. The source
said, "Nigeria is more like his second
home since he relocated, besides he
doesn't seem to have much for him here".
While he was in Nigeria, Dekunle Fuji
whose real name is Adekunle Oloyede
Michael Olalekan had made a name for
himself in the church circles, delivering his
album, 'No Lele' under the Storm Records
imprint in 2008. The album debuted
following the hit single, 'Mo Like Jesu Gan'
which featured rapper, Ikechukwu with
the video directed by DJ Tee.
The Osun State-born musician who is a
graduate of Theatre Arts from the
University of Lagos had launched himself
into a new kind of hiphop infused fuji with
a Christian message gaining popularity
among both fuji and hihop fans at the
same time.
Dekunle's new vocation is coming on the
heels of recent trail of Nigerian celebs that
have down-played their celebrity statuses
and adopting a more regular profession.
Former beauty queen and actress, Regina
Askia-Williams had long become a
qualified nurse in New York since
marrying her American husband.
There are also tales of former, 419 Squad
member, MP who dropped music to train
as a doctor in UK but has since moved to
the US where he now resides and
practices.

Breaking News : Mandela’s condition in a critical situation
Anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela
who is receiving treatment for a
recurrent lung infection is now in
critical condition, South Africa’s
presidency said Sunday.
“The condition of former president
Nelson Mandela, who is still in
hospital in Pretoria, has become
critical,” Mac Maharaj, presidential
spokesman, said in a statement.
The condition of 94-year-old who was
admitted to hospital on June 8 has
worsened in the past 24 hours.
President Jacob Zuma broke the news after
visiting Mandela in hospital Sunday evening
and was told by doctors “that the former
president’s condition had become critical
over the past 24 hours.”
Mandela, who became South Africa’s first
black president in 1994, is due to celebrate
his 95th birthday on July 18. He has been
hospitalised four times since December,
mostly for the pulmonary condition that
has plagued him for years.

Welcome to Malaysia, world's number one in condoms.
Though many intending visitors to
Malaysia may have certain reservations,
Solaade Ayo-Aderele, who was in the
Southeast Asian country, reports that it's
fun all the way
Though the e-mail was terse, it still sent
cold shivers down the spines of those of
us slated to participate in the Women
Deliver 2013, a triennial conference that
brings together voices from around the
world to call for action to improve the
health and well-being of girls and
women.
We'd been scheduled to visit the
Ministry of Women, Family and
Community Development under the
National Population and Family
Development Board in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia; and one of the numerous
helpers at the conference, Mari
Rasmussen, had written to us on behalf
of Women Deliver, warning us about the
"acceptable" dress code.
The email reads, in part: "Attendees are
expected to wear business casual attire.
Please, consider keeping your shoulders,
upper chest, and knees covered."
The Programme Director, International
Media Training of the Population
Reference Bureau, Debroah Mesce, saw
the need to still draw our attention to
the important message should it have
escaped our eyes.
And just as we were trying to sort out
the appropriate clothes to take to
Malaysia, Stephanie Platis, another
volunteer and an Associate with the
Global Health Strategies, New York,
wrote to tell us that we needed
permission to bring in certain
communications equipment. Here's her
email to that effect:
"Please note that if you are planning to
bring camera/video equipment to the
conference centre, you will need to
apply and get approval through the
Malaysian Ministry of Information,
Communications and Culture.
"I am more than happy to help you
secure the appropriate approvals. If you
are planning on bringing camera/video
equipment to the meeting, please send
me an email indicating exactly which
equipment you will be taking with you by
Tuesday, 23 April.
"I will then pass this information along
to the conference centre staff, who can
help secure the customs letter you will
need to bring this equipment into the
country.
"Please note, if you do not send me the
necessary information by Tuesday, 23
April, we cannot guarantee that you will
get approval to bring your equipment."
The mail turned out to be unnecessarily
alarmist, because we not only took in all
sorts of communications gadgets, we
also enjoyed our stay in Malaysia, while
the social scene in the Southeast Asian
country left us gaping with wonder.
The reason is simple: Malaysia is
predominantly Muslim, and we had
expected people to be conservative, but
they are not. The Suria KLCC shopping
mall provides one of the best glimpses
into the Malaysian socio-economic life,
as it daily fills up to the brim with
citizens and foreigners alike.
The social life of Malaysians is a study in
amazement, considering the Muslim
population. Though the Muslim women
are clad in burqa, which may be partial
or full, they don't fail to express
affection openly towards their men.
It's virtually hard to see lone women
walking the streets or the malls, as they
are always accompanied by male
partners. Couples who are conservative
and older simply hold hands tightly,
while the young ones smooch around,
kissing openly and pressing against each
other.
In terms of dressing, we were in for a
big shock, what with the fact that
designer tattered shorts and micro mini
rule the dressing of the younger
Malaysians, even as they rub shoulders
with women in burqa.
The shops parade all manner of clothes
that you don't expect to see in an
Islamic country; but it only goes to show
the freedom that citizens enjoy.
Another surprise is that though we
moved round the city, we didn't see
ubiquitous worship places, nor were
there those early morning or mid
afternoon calls to prayers. Even on
Friday, the Muslim Sabbath, worshippers
simply went in groups to designated
worship places, and there was no
conversion of public spaces to
emergency prayer grounds.
One other thing that intrigued a visitor
like me -- considering the religious
tension back home where certain
religious sects claim that western
education, especially for women, is
antithetical to the Islamic faith -- is that
Malaysia has one of the largest
populations of highly educated women
any nation can boast of.
According to official statistics, the 2012
Malaysian population is 29,179,952, out
of which women number 14 million. Out
of these, a whopping 99 per cent (13.86
million) of girls ages between 15 and 24
years are literate, and 71 per cent of the
entire female population are enrolled in
secondary school.
A further 45 per cent (6.3 million or one
out of two) are enrolled in tertiary
education, while 44 per cent (6.16
million or one out of two) of women are
economically active as from age 15. And
in government, women make up 10 per
cent of members of parliament.
What this means is that in Malaysia,
poverty does not have the female face,
unlike what obtains in most developing
countries like Nigeria.
Since the Women Deliver Conference,
generally, is all about improving the
health and well-being of girls and
women, population control is also an
integral aspect of the global do.
Consequently, manufacturers of family
planning devices , especially condoms,
had more than enough opportunity to
showcase their ware.
While the male condoms were on display
and also available for the asking, female
condoms took the shine off the male
stuffs. From one length of the expansive
exhibition halls to the other, various
sizes, shapes, colours and makes of
female condoms were not only on
display but also on offer to everybody.
And we aren't talking of 5,000 people
here!
Not to be outshined, Malaysia, our host,
flew this imposing banner across one of
its many stands: "Malaysia, World's No.
1 in condoms." This is not altogether
surprising, as Malaysia is a rubber
exporting country; and for a country
that believes in population control to
achieve developmental goals, what
better way can it prove it than to be at
the forefront of those who work round
the clock to shield (literally) women from
unwanted and unplanned pregnancies.
Apart from condoms, another product
that caught attention was the reusable
12-hour period protection called
Softcup.
Manufactured by Evofem Inc., Softcup is
touted as a flexible cup that is worn
internally around the cervix. Unlike the
traditional sanitary pad that is used to
line the pant during a woman's monthly
period, Softcup is inserted into the
vagina where it collects, rather than
absorb, menstrual flow. The
manufacturers claim that it is hypo-
allergenic, latex-free and completely safe
when used as directed.
We may drop out of school soon - Rolling Dollar's children
The location was the Millennium Estate,
Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos residence of
deceased highlife singer, Fatai Olagunju,
otherwise called Rolling Dollar. His two
wives, Zainab and Serifat, some of his
children including Sikiru-who is the
singer's 50-year-old first son, wore a
pensive mood as our correspondent
walked into their home.
It was evident from their faces that they
were yet to come to terms with the
reality of the death of the 86-year-old
songbird, Rolling Dollar, who breathed
his last on June 12, coinciding with the
20th anniversary of the acclaimed
"fairest and freest" election in Nigeria.
The musician shot to stardom a few
years back via a successful album, Won
Kere si Number Wa. But despite his
fame, the family is worried about the
education of his younger children.
One of the children, Jamiu, told our
correspondent that he was still
saddened by the death of his father,
expressing uncertainty over his future.
He explained that he and his other
siblings would miss their father's pieces
of advice.
The young Olagunju regretted that his
late father was unable to fulfil the
promise he made to him concerning his
education.
Jamiu stated, "Anytime he was around,
he used to advise us on things we
should do and the ones we should
avoid. He promised me that he would
make sure I studied up to university
level. It is unfortunate that when my
father was making the promise, he did
not know that he would die this year."
He added that when the news of his
father's death was broken to him, the
first thing he remembered was the
promise he made to him, regarding his
university education.
"When I was told about his death, I
remembered what he promised me. I
also thought about my education. It is
my desire to be a singer like my father
but I want to go to school first. To
honour my father, I will take to music
someday. He became popular as a
highlife singer but I want to be a hip-
hop artiste," he added.
Rolling Dollar might have arrived on the
big stage late in life but his works were
recognised by highlife lovers, music
buffs and fellow musicians. After his
death, President Goodluck Jonathan was
one of many notable individuals who
praised the good work of the late singer.
Zainab, who had just finished saying her
prayers, told SUNDAY PUNCH that she
was yet to believe that her husband had
left her forever. She recalled that she
married the musician after her first
marriage failed, adding that Rolling
Dollar was yet to hit the stardom when
he married her.
She said, "I was staying with an aunt at
Olorunsogo, Mushin area of Lagos about
13 years ago when I met him. I used to
see him pass by but I did not know that
he had interest in me. I was a bit sick
when he called me on a Sunday. He
jokingly asked me if I would not mind
preparing Ramadan food for him
because it was the fasting period. He
later noticed some patches at both
corners of my mouth, indicating that I
had been sick. I told him I had used
some drugs but he insisted on buying
some more for me."
Zainab said the musician did not even
stop at that. According to her, he also
prepared rice and asked one of his
children to take some to her house.
She added, "I later learnt that the year
he met me was exactly three years after
the death of his wife, who left three
children behind. We got married in 2001
and I promised to take care of the
children for him. His caring and honest
nature drew me to him."
She further stated that the family was
apprehensive of how to cater for the
children of the late artiste, who she said,
did not leave anything behind. Zainab
appealed to his fans to stand by them at
their moment of grief.
Rolling Dollar's younger wife, Serifat,
who said she bore a boy and a girl for
the deceased singer, also reiterated that
their husband did not leave any money
to train their children.
When the highlife maestro was alive,
Serifat said he cared so much for the
children and would do anything to make
them happy. But his death seemed to
have caught her and the rest of the
family unawares.
"Our husband did not leave any money.
We hope his fans and government will
stand by us. The major challenge we are
facing right now is how to ensure that
our children continue their education. I
am a businesswoman and I only survive
on the little profit I make," she stated.
Rolling Dollar's eldest child, Sikiru, who
said he left the Nigerian Educational and
Development Council in 1996, told
SUNDAY PUNCH that he left his father at
seven.
He stated that he was unhappy because
of the inability to see his father before
he died, adding that he was also sick
when he was informed about his ill-
health.
Sikiru said, "My father is one man that I
like so much. I live at Ikenne in Ogun
State. I was so sad when I was told that
he was ill because I was also indisposed
at the time. I thought that his sickness
was not something serious because he
was a strong man until I was told of the
urgent need to see him. Apart from my
sickness, I was also broke but I pleaded
that those around him, especially his
wives, should take good care of him.
Immediately I was strong enough to
move around, I set out for Lagos to see
him but it was unfortunate that he died
before I could reach him. I was on the
road when I received the call about his
death."
Sikiru however eulogised his father's
virtues, saying he was happy that God
gave the family a wonderful father who
never maltreated his children
"My father taught us never to
misbehave, steal or look down on
anybody. These are some of the virtues I
imbibed from him and I am happy to say
that the lessons are of great value to me.
They have assisted my journey in life."

BREAKING NEWS: FIRE OUTBREAK WIPES OUT FAMILY!
The fire, which was said to have been ignited by an explosion, took the lives of the victims while they were asleep.
Though the identity of the couple could not be immediately ascertained, the father of the four children was a taxi driver while his wife was a petty trader.
Reports, learnt that the incident, which occurred around 1.45am, also affected a large part of the building located at No. 17, New Estate Road, Railway Quarters.
Property worth millions of naira was also lost to the inferno that engulfed the eight-flat building.
It was gathered that the children of the couple, (three boys and a girl) were of ages 22, 17, nine and seven before they met their untimely death.
An eyewitness said two other children had travelled out of Port Harcourt to sit for their West African Senior School Certificate Examination when the incident happened.
However, the landlord of the building (name withheld), who spoke on the incident, stated that he was woken up by a sound, adding that the whole building was on fire before he could realise what had happened.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, the landlord said it would have been better for the house to be razed than for the inferno to kill six persons in one fell swoop.
“It is unfortunate and heart bleeding. It would have been better for the whole compound to burn than to lose the six family members,” he said.
A tenant, who identified himself as Victor, explained that the inferno began from the victims’ flat before spreading to other flats.
According to him, while their neighbours were able to escape, the victims could not because they were already fast asleep when the fire became intense.
Residents of the area where the incident occurred wailed the moment sympathisers mentioned the names of the children affected by the fire.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Angela Agabe, said she was aware of the incident but had yet to get details from the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.

‘We May be Abused, Even Killed, But I’ll Like to Come Back an Albino’
Patrick Ugeh explores the challenges
albinos face in Nigeria and recounts the
compelling story of Jake Epelle, founder
of The Albino Foundation, an organisation
that seeks to change attitudes towards
people living with the condition
Many, especially in Nigeria’s south, must
have been guilty of it. As kids, we may
have seen abnormally white-skinned
Africans with freckles, often squinting and
with slightly-discoloured hair, and we may
have made them the butt of our jokes
with sadistic delight.
(The foregoing dichotomy is deliberately
made because in much of the
predominantly Muslim north,
discrimination on the basis of natural or
even acquired personal defects is rare as
every deficiency is seen as the handiwork
of God.)
The pleasure some take in making this
class of people miserable is reminiscent
of the tale of the boy in Aesop’s fable who
went to the riverside and had his kick by
pelting frogs and toads with stones till
they were mangled and, oftentimes, died.
This is exactly the plight of the estimated
two million albinos in Nigeria. The
pleasure many derive in pelting pebbles
of abuse at them is killing them
psychologically.
Nobody expresses this better than Dr.
Olarenwaju Falodun, a consultant at the
National Hospital, Abuja, who noted that
depression arising from the
discriminatory and inhuman treatment
given to this class of people by society at
large, including even family members, is
one of their greatest concern.
Low esteem
Albino women are said to suffer low self-
esteem because of name-calling,
rejection, rape, low vision, which affects
their educational status from birth. These
are besides the fact that 80 per cent of all
albinos suffer skin and other cancers
which accounts for 98 percent of all
deaths in such people, according to a
2011 UNICEF publication, The Knowledge,
Attitude and Practices Study on Children
with Albinism in Nigeria. To get a clearer
picture of the low vision experienced by
albinos, the study describes it as “a
partial loss of vision that cannot be
corrected with medication, surgery and
medicated eyeglasses.” The high incidence
of skin cancer is because albinism is a
genetic condition in which the melanin
pigment that protects the skin against the
rays of the sun is absent from the skin of
the child.
Accounts of hurtful prejudice that albinos
have to fight against verges on both the
ludicrous and bizarre. In Delta State, a
few persons had hunted and killed
albinos in the belief that they contained
mercury that could be used for money. In
Kwara State a few months ago, according
to the founder of The Albino Foundation,
Mr. Jake Epelle, a woman was killed for
ritual purposes obviously in connection
with her albinism. “It’s all fallacy,” Epelle
emphasised. “There is no basis for that. It
is not true that any of such acts could
produce the result they expect from these
their dastardly acts.”
“Discrimination against persons with
albinism is serious in Nigeria,” Epelle told
THISDAY. “It’s painted everywhere.
Discrimination begins from the family to
the workplace to education to church and
mosque. I am a living example of such
discrimination.”
Elucidating his experience, beginning
from his home, he said: “Well, I don’t
blame it on somebody like my mum; I
blame it on the society.”
No succour at the home front
According to him, she couldn’t cope with
some of the pressure. “So, it sort of
created a distance between me and her,”
Epelle said. “My brothers, people in my
locality all discriminated against me;
school was worse. And then in social
circles and in the work-place.”
Throwing more light on the discrimination
against albinos, he said: “They make jest
of your challenges. They tell you straight
to your face, ‘you don’t see.’ For instance,
if you have any issue with your sibling,
that’s the first thing they will use. They
can call you a name as bad as white goat.
“ They call you all sorts of names right
from home, right from when you were
small. Oyibo pepper, African oyibo, etc. I
heard a heart-breaking story of a man
who had six children with albinism and
six non-albinos. The first one was an
albino. The father would go as far as
spitting at his face and saying, ‘God
forbid!’
“I have freckles on my face today because
in school, my friends would hold me and
put my face to the sun and the teacher
would be in front of the class and say
‘you this thing’ and flog me and say ‘I’ll
kill you’ and call you names before your
classmates: ‘You blind man, get out of this
place.’ So, it’s there.”
He continued: “Relationally, it’s never
heard of in a situation where you are
eligible for marriage and you want to
marry somebody and the parents will
reject you and tell you to your face, ‘You
are an albino; you can’t marry my
daughter.’”
At the level of the foundation, he said
they had received lots of reports. In one
instance, an albino went for an interview
and he was the best but he was told
straight to his face that they could not
employ him because of his colour. Their
reason was that they felt he wouldn’t be
able to work.
“What an assumption!” Epelle exclaimed.
Fighting the prejudice
“The person who has money will go to
court,” he said. “But 89.5 per cent of them
are very poor. So, where would they have
money to pay for lawyers? Many of them
are not even educated to know that they
should go to court to fight for their
rights.”
Although the Nigerian constitution
provides for freedom from discrimination,
Epelle believes the disability bill would
give greater protection. “If you go to
court, yes, the constitution says so, but
what of the operational law?” he queried.
“The operational law has a loophole
where somebody can ask you to prove it
beyond reasonable doubt. The essence of
the real protective law is captured in the
Disability Bill, but then it has not been
signed into law. So, you can’t even make
reference to it. The National Policy on
Albinism has not been approved; so, you
can’t quote it in the law court. So these
are hindrances to such very good
documents.”
But Epelle disagrees with the notion
expressed by some experts who counsel
against albinos marrying a fellow albino
and for people to test for the prospects of
producing albinos as a way of checking
the spread of albinism. Dismissing the
suggestion off-hand, he said: “I don’t
push for that. Anybody can marry
anybody. The thing is if you can’t cope
with the challenges, if you don’t know
what to do, it’s advisable you don’t.”
You wonder if what is advised among
carriers of the sickle cell gene against
marrying themselves should not apply to
albinos. “What is wrong with proliferating
the gene?” Epelle fires back. “I don’t
agree that albinos should not continue to
give birth to persons with albinism. I am
very comfortable with my albinism. I am
proud to be an albino. I have no regret. I
want to say it from the rooftop that if God
is creating me again - if there is
something like that - I will like to be an
albino again. I have no regrets
whatsoever.”
His reasons: “God created everybody the
way they are; everybody has challenges.
You that is coloured, you have challenges.
The important thing is that your creator
has a purpose in mind for every creation.
God knows why He created us the way we
are. And we should be grateful that He
created us the way we are. Who knows, if
I was created black, I could have been
dead; I could have been a madman,
hospitalised or with permanent injury.”
Reminded that while it is true, those with
traits that can be avoided, like in the case
of sicklers, ought to take preventive steps
from the outset, he said: “Theirs is
different from ours,” he retorts. “We
don’t have any major issue. Yes, we don’t
see well; true, we can’t go out in the sun,
but there are preventive measures. If you
can’t see well, go close to the object.
Don’t go out in the sun; you won’t have
wrinkles. Or if you go, wear long-sleeve;
wear a hat.
“ If my parents knew what I know now, I
wouldn’t have had these freckles. So, I
am not an advocate for albinos not to
marry themselves. If they marry
themselves, fine, but the thing is 90 per
cent of the time they are going to give
birth to albinos. For me, I don’t have one.
I wish I had one. I know top individuals
who are regretting that they wished they
had albinos.”

B-E-T-R-A-Y-A-L: House-help, lover, fake soldiers arrested for robbing master of $100,000
Operatives of the Special Anti
Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, Lagos
have arrested a female house help
who allegedly connived with her
boyfriend and two fake soldiers to
rob her master of over 100,000
Dollars.
The 23 year-old house help, Adaeze
Ijeoma, allegedly sneaked into her
master’s bedroom located in
Maryland, Lagos, last month, after
he traveled out of the country.
Unsure of where to keep the foreign
currency, she reportedly took it to
her boyfriend, one Onyebuchi
Uche, only for him to flee with the
money, leaving Adaeze in doubt.
On his part, Onyebuchi , who has
been jobless for years, rushed to
Alade market, Ikeja where he
changed some of the dollars to
naira and thereafter, deposited the
sum of N8 million in two banks. He
thereafter, told operatives at SARS
that he also bought a car; ‘End of
Discussion’ and a plot of land in an
undisclosed area where he had
started molding blocks for building.
Determined to get her own share of
the loot from him, betrayed Adaeze
was said to have confided with one
of her relatives identified simply as
Nnamdi to help retrieve the money
from her estranged lover.
Nnamdi and two other persons clad
in Military camouflage reportedly
stormed Maryland last week where
on spotting Onyebuchi, bundled
him inside his new vehicle and took
him to a hotel in Mende area of
Lagos, where they reportedly
tortured him and forced him to
disclose where he kept the money.
They reportedly managed to get the
sum of N6.5 million from two
separate banks where Onyebuchi
kept the money, including the new
car he bought.

Dolce and Gabbana Sentenced to Jail
Italian fashion designers Domenico Dolce
and Stefano Gabbana have been
sentenced to jail in Italy for one year and
eight months for tax evasion.
The pair were not at the trial and deny
the charges.
They are accused of hiding millions of
euros from Italian tax authorities.
Dolce and Gabbana have not yet given a
public comment on the sentence and are
likely to appeal the verdict. They are said
to be unlikely to go to jail any time soon.
Their customers have included Madonna,
Kylie Minogue, Kate Moss and Bryan
Ferry.
The investigation by the Italian authorities
began around six years ago as part of a
government plan to crack down on tax
avoidance.
At the hearing on Wednesday, the judge
ruled that the designers moved their
brand to a Luxembourg-based holding
company Gado in 2004.
He said they had done this to avoid
declaring taxes on royalties of around 1
billion euros (£833m; $1.3bn).
Prosecutors alleged they sold the
business for well below actual market
value.
They were initially cleared of the charges
at a previous trial in April 2011 but Italy's
highest court overturned that ruling,
ordering that the case should be sent
back.

New York Police Nab Suspected Killer of Nigerian Cab Driver
One week after the savage attack on a
Nigerian-born cab driver in New York, the
police in New York Wednesday arrested a
suspect in connection with the killing of
the driver in the Brownsville area of
Brooklyn in downtown New York.
Uro Ama Orji, 54, from Ebonyi State, was
stabbed in the eye with an umbrella on
June 13 by one of the two passengers he
was carrying. The umbrella was said to
have pierced through his eye into his
brain causing him to immediately
collapse.
The suspect was seen running from the
scene of the incident through a security
camera.
The late Orji was taken to the Brookdale
Hospital, where doctors pronounced him
dead.
The motive of the attack was not known,
as there were no indications whether the
passenger had a disagreement, perhaps
over the fare, with Orji. In the weeks
ahead, investigations are sure to throw
more light on the incident.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN), the suspect, named Shamel Allen,
28, of Brooklyn, was charged for
manslaughter and possession of a
weapon.
He was accused of stabbing the deceased
inside a cab in Brownsville on June 13.
Orji’s sister in-law, Mrs. Chinedum Agwu,
described the deceased as “a hard-
working Nigerian” who had been driving
cab since he moved to Brooklyn 10 years
ago.
A week earlier, another Nigerian,
Solomon James Okoro, also a cab driver,
was shot dead by people believed to be
armed robbers in Washington DC.

PDP crisis: Metuh, others resign
The National Publicity Secretary of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa
Metuh, would turn in his resignation letter
before the commencement of the party’s
National Executive Committee (NEC)
meeting on Thursday.
Metuh, who confirmed his resignation to
reporters in his PDP secretariat office on
Wednesday, said other officials affected by
the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) report will also resign.
He stated: “I want to inform you that I am
resigning as the National Publicity Secretary
with effect from Thursday, June 20, 2013.
“This resignation is in the overall interest of
the party and is being done to put a final
stop to the controversy generated by the
INEC report on the mode of my election as
National Publicity Secretary.
“I have served this party as a member of
the National Executive Committee for over
10 years and therefore my interest is to
ensure that this party stabilises. I have
written and submitted my letter.”
Metuh said he took the decision after
several meetings and consultations with the
various stakeholders in the party,
particularly those from the Southeast
geopolitical zone.
Asked if he will re-contest the position in a
mid-term convention slated for July 15,
Metuh said he will take a decision after
consultation with his family and leaders of
the party in the Southeast zone.
“I will go back to them and seek their
opinion. The decision is for the PDP leaders
in my zone to take. I will continue to do my
best in whatever capacity I find myself in
the near future,” he stated.
Close-up with Abuja's First FemaleTaxi Driver
After several cancelled appointments due
to the nature of her job Chineme Okafor
finally got close-up with Aisha Umar, the
Abuja’s pioneer female taxi driver. He
writes about the life of a woman who
breaks the jinx to succeed in a profession
commonly reserved for menfolk
“Reserved for men?” Aisha Umar, a single
young mother-of-two from Mubi Local
Government Area in Adamawa State and
Abuja’s renowned pioneer female taxi
driver queried in disagreement when
asked why she decided to explore
opportunity in a job known to be
common with men in Nigeria.
“I am a taxi driver and I’m loving it,” she
said. “Some people believe that driving a
taxi is a trade exclusively reserved for
men and people of low life, but it is a
wrong perception. I prefer to earn a
decent living through this means than to
sit down and beg for money.”
In Abuja where Umar is the first female
taxi driver and one of three plying the
streets of the cosmopolitan city, there is
no mistaken of her identity.

Davido: I AM NOT AT WAR WITH WIZKID
MULTIPLE AWARD-WINNING MUSICIAN,
DAVID ADELEKE A.K.A. DAVIDO HAS
UPPED THE ANTE OF NIGERIAN
CONTEMPORARY MUSIC WITH
NUMEROUS HIT SONGS AND HE STILL
WANTS TO DO MORE. HIS SONGS NOW
DOMINATE AT PARTIES, CLUBS AND
OTHER HANG OUTS. DAVIDO OPENS UP
TO LANRE ODUKOYA ON HIS MANY
PLANS, RELATIONSHIP WITH WIZKID,
REPORTED RANCOR BETWEEN HIM AND
SHINA RAMBO (HIS COUSIN) AND THE
WOMEN IN HIS LIFE
NUMEROUS LAURELS…
I’m
honoured and grateful for all the awards I
have been given. It’s humbling to be
recognised at this stage of my life; that’s
why my reaction to awards is to work
harder on my music and make more
people happy.
NEXT ALBUM…
2014 is the year for my second album. I
have a whole lot of new sounds to
sample. So, from now till then I’ll be hard
at work putting everything together.
Serious work is needed because I am not
making just another album, with ordinary
songs to groove to, no. I’m taking my
time to make the album that will be the
album of the year. My sophomore album
would definitely be a more experienced
sound, a more international focus with
everybody still in mind. I always put
pleasing the people on top of my mind,
so when I hear something I just tell my
guys ‘they will love this’. My fans are my
backbone; my sophomore album would
still be about giving them the best.
MY FEARS…
It is hard to be fearful of anything if God
is by your side. I’ve learnt that one must
continuously work hard and be creative
and flexible at the same time. So, if any
creeps in, I just banish them.
WIZKID AND I…
Of course we are on talking terms. I have
a lot of respect for Wizkid and his last
single is one of my favorite jamz right
now. I seriously don’t know why people
always raise the issue and ask me if I’m
cool with him. I thought by now they
would be tired of it. And as for
competition, the industry as a whole is
competitive and there are many of us with
different styles and tunes. Every artist just
strives to stay unique and original. So,
the question of Wizkid and I is just
because we are two young guys in the
industry that have done well and taken
our stand in the industry; that’s why you
people keep asking such questions.
CLASH WITH SHINA RAMBO…
There’s no story there; it’s just all
rumours flying around. My cousin and I
have too much love and bond that none
of that can come between us. We
practically grew up together and we have
stood by one another from the beginning.
So, there’s no story there that I know of.
PLANS FOR NEXT
QUARTER…
More singles, videos, shows and all that
will be keeping me busy. Then again, like I
said already, I have a whole lot of work to
do; a lot of productions to make and
beats to sample. The tracks I’m
considering to release this year will need
major attention. They won’t be just to
enter the studio, record and come out.
Imagine doing that for a whole lot of
tracks. So, that’s how my year is going to
be.
TOUR OF EUROPE…
Yes, it has been amazing to get a lot of
fans asking for me in Europe, I’m just
here for my people, my fans, people who
love and support my music. Already, we
did Vienna on Saturday and that was
explosive. Antwerp Belgium is next and
we’ll go round Europe till the end of June.
Then my African tour comes up in July. It
has truly been a blessing.
ABOUT MY LATEST VIDEO, ONE OF A
KIND…
One of a Kind as you said is about
celebrating the uniqueness and beauty of
Africa. It’s about the women of Africa, the
vibrant cultures and the colours. It’s also
my way of respecting my heritage. The
response across Africa is humbling. I’m
grateful.
MY MUSIC DEAL IN THE UK…
Wow! How does news travel this fast? All I
will say is that we are still in certain talks
and in due time all will be made known.
THE PHOTO SCANDALS…
I have a wide fan base and I have a great
deal of respect for my female fans. A lot
of my songs are for women. I cannot be
tired of the support from my fans.
WHAT I WOULD LOVE TO DO ASIDE
MUSIC…
Music is my life so it’s hard to choose
something else. I’d probably choose to be
a pilot and I’ll do that one day, to get
certified to fly. It’s an amazing thing to be
in control of a machine in full flight.

it has never seen before in the
history of entertainment.”He
disclosed. Terry G who spoke
with our correspondent on the
phone affirmed that it is always
good to turn back and examine
where one is coming from. He
said the aim of an Abuja concert

reflect over the good old days,
and to appreciate Abuja fans for
believing in him through these
years. He said, “Abuja is like my
second home, and I’m
appreciative of all the supports I
have gotten from Abuja people.
It’s like returning home to say,
hey! This is me, I’m here to
make you smile again. The aim
is to ponder for a while over
our success story and to put a
smile on the faces of our friends
in the FCT. I love them. We will
ginger it together.
It will be a great show as I’m
getting lots and lots of supports
from friends and colleagues in
the industry. Majority of them
will be at the concert.” You may
recall that Terry G’s concert was
to hold in April this year, but
was shifted due to his numerous
production works. The concert
will be hosted by AY D
Comedian and Uche Obodo.
